I wish I was in New England for the holiday season but I'm not so I feel shitty about the whole thing. I should have known I wouldn't be able to get time off from work. In hindsight, I probably wouldn't have taken the job had I known. So now I'm stuck spending Christmas in a state where you have to go to the mountains to see snow. I feel like eating unhealthy food and vegging out in front of the TV watching movies...

It's funny how one annoying thing can set me off for the rest of the day.

I didn't work on Kerry Healy's campaign... [Nov. 10th, 2006|12:21 am]
That's the real reason she lost. Seriously though, Healy just wasn't well-liked and lacked the charisma that Romney had in 2002 and Patrick had this year. I trust that he has Massachusetts' best interests when he assumes the governorship in January. Although I find it somewhat troubling that with the corner office restored to the Democratic Party, Massachusetts now has a political monopoly unequaled by either party in any state in the Union. Massachusetts truly is the most liberal state in the country now, for better or worse. Still, I wish Deval Patrick all the best and success. I want him to be a good governor. Regardless of the direction his administration takes, I will always continue to be proud to be from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the best place to live in my estimation.

As for the Democrats regaining control of Congress, very nicely done. As well, I hope they do a good job. After 12 years of Republican rule, it was time for a change. No one party can be in charge for too long before it becomes complacent and corrupted. So one could argue that the Democrats gained power because the Republicans were doing a sub-par job, not because they can actually do a better job...but I hope they can do a better job and work together with Republicans for true bipartisan political discourse...well one can dream.

Oh yeah, I met Howard Zinn last night and he's a great guy...because he's a Red Sox fan. Oh yeah, and because he's all into activism and citizen empowerment and all that stuff too.

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you," and certainly there's
another chance to say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
And you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
And whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

Why I will never settle down in California [Oct. 15th, 2006|04:52 pm]
[mood |bitchyBitchy]

In the past 4 days, I drove around 200 miles and spent nearly 8 hours in traffic. I didn't spend even half that amount of miles and time this past summer. Goodnight, going to bed in the hopes I will wake up and it will be Monday...

Facebook... [Oct. 10th, 2006|12:38 am]
[mood |sadSad]

Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg really hit on something when he launched Facebook but I'm sad to say that in its recent incarnation, Facebook painfully illustrates how uncivil our generation has become in practicing simple discourse. Go to any controversial global group (abortion for example) and take a look at its discussion board or wall. You'll see pages and pages of people flinging insults back and forth personally attacking each other's character. Congratulations. In a generation, I'll be dealing with the likes of these people in government and business and so will you. I can't wait...
